12-15 HCP

 

Same as 2/1 with the following exceptions:

 

 

 The 1, 1, and 1 opening are limited to 12-18 HCP which is 1-2 points less than in 2/1 consequently:

 

 

2 opening (12-15 HCP & 6+ or 5 & 4 cm ) : all responses are natural to play, except 2 which is asking, resp:

·        2/ - 4 cards;

·        2NT - 6+ and max;

·        3 - 6+ and min;

·        3 - 6 with 4 ;

·        3/ - 6+ & max & shortness in the bid suit;

·        3NT – solid 6+

After 2/  the next suit asks for distribution; resp.:  with 6+ & 4 rebid , with 5422 bid NT; with 5431 bid longer unbid suit.

16-18 HCP

Same as 2/1 with the following exceptions:

19+ HCP – always open 1

 

After negative (1) response:

 

With balanced hand:

§         2 = 0-3 HCP

§         2 = 4-6 HCP

§         2NT = 7+ HCP unbalanced at least 5-4 in minors

§         3 = 7-9 HCP & 5+

§         3 = 7-12 HCP & 5+

§         3/ = 0-3 HCP & 6+ card suit

§         3NT = 16+ HCP balanced.

 

 With unbalanced 19-21/22 HCP (less than game forcing strength):

With unbalanced 22/23+ HCP hand (game forcing strength):

 

19+ HCP – always open 1

exceptions to 1♣ -1 as weak

  1. 7-10 point hands without a 4 cm that are unsuitable for 1NT
  2. 10-12 point hands with 6+ .  After opener's minimum rebid jump to 3.
  3. 10-12 point hands with 5+  & 4+ , (unsuitable for 2NT, not strong enough for 2) rebid 2 over opener's 1 (1-1, 1-2), or 3 over 1 (1-1, 1-3).
  4. 13+ point hands with a powerful 6+ card  suit and slam interest that would be difficult to express after 1-2. After opener's expected 1 or 1 rebid, continue with:
  5. 16+ point balanced hands lacking a 4 cm or 5 cards minor, jump to 2NT after opener's 1 /1 rebid.

 
WEAK OPENING BIDS

 

2/ = 5-10 HCP;

 

 2 = 6-10 HCP 5/5+ majors or major/minor 2 suiter. Responses:

2/ weak 2+ cards
 2NT relay ...
 -- 3 = clubs (then 3?major);
 -- 3 = diamonds/hearts
 -- 3 = spades/hearts
 -- 3 = diamonds/spades

3 = natural
3 = game try both majors
3 = pass/correct
3 = three suited short hearts!!  invitational
4 = preempt/game in either major

 

2NT = 6-10 HCPs, 5-5 or better in the minors. Responses:

3/  -  sign off.                                        3  - asking about distribution, resp:

3- 2155; 3NT - 1255; 4/  - 6+ & 5+ (bid the longer one); 4 - 0355; 4 - 3055.

 

 

3/ // = weak use rule of 2/3

 

 

 

3NT = solid minor, no outside stopper, opener must bid 4 in that minor if X but not XX.
